Pelias ( Πελίας ) is the son of Poseidon and Tyro who, together with his twin brother Neleus, was abandoned as a baby and raised by a mare and then by a herdsman until he eventually became the powerful king of Iolcus; according to the myth, Pelias was the one who sent Jason on the quest of the Golden Fleece and initiated the famous Expedition of the Argonauts.
